Consistency when working with a cutaway
Whatever establishing shot you choose, make sure that that’s the shot you return to when you cut back
ABA
A – who is the subject?
B – what are they seeing?
A – how do they feel about it?
It’s like music, rhythmic subconscious musical balance of advancing the story
Continuation of camera movement
If you are moving from moving shot, then not to a static shot
Wait until the camera has completed its move to change to another static shot
BUT Scene transitions often switch from moving to static shots
And vice versa
Performance
Keep track of character’s wants and needs
Dolly shot zooming in on character gets audience to pay attention (and lean forward in their chair)
Jumping the line – breaking the 180° rule
i.e. line of Eye contact between characters
